Overview

This experience is not about dressing up.
It is about discovering how preparation transforms the way you exist—and how you relate to others.
Set in a 280-year-old townhouse in Iwamura Castle Town, this full-day program invites you to explore “appearance” not as decoration, but as a mindful and disciplined practice. You will learn directly from a practitioner who continues to wear kimono and style her hair in a traditional way as part of her everyday life.
Her presence embodies a way of living where appearance is not separate from life—but deeply integrated into it.
The experience begins with Traditional Japanese Hairstyling, using a simple self-styling method with only five elastics and two pins
—without sprays or artificial tools.
You will learn to prepare yourself, rather than relying on others.
You will then carry this state into dressing yourself in kimono, discovering how clothing shapes posture, movement, and awareness.
As you walk through the historic castle town in your own prepared appearance, you will begin to notice subtle yet profound changes—not only in how you move and perceive your surroundings, but also in how you connect with the people around you. In Iwamura, appearance often becomes a quiet bridge:
inviting conversation, evoking memory, and creating moments of shared presence across generations.
Throughout the day, you will experience:
・How preparation influences presence
・How simplicity creates sustainable beauty
・How appearance fosters harmony—not only within yourself, but with others and the community
The experience concludes with reflection—
not on how you looked, but on how you felt, moved, and related.
